My name is Edward B. “Ned” Stieglitz, I’m a native Floridian, originally from South Florida, who fell in love with NW Florida while stationed here.
I’ve recently bought my retirement home in the Oak Tree Park subdivision, just west of Hurlburt, where I had the honor of serving from ’88-’95, as the First Special Operations SERE (Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape) Instructor.
I have always thought I would offer to serve my community, if ever able, and, that time has come. I also think neighbors should know each other, communicate with and watch out for each other. I am your neighbor, ‘Neighbor Ned!’
My entire life, I’ve been vocal and I’ve voted. I pay attention to issues large and small; and, I care deeply. Talk is cheap. Voting is easy. Putting myself out there, willing to represent you, is hard. I’d considered taking my retirement income and retiring like a King in some Third World Expatriate Community. I could take ‘mine’ and live a life of leisure; yet I care too much about my country to do so.
Mary Esther, Florida is my home. I meet my neighbors. I want to help. We must make decisions immediately on Fire and Police services. I have dozens of ideas, from AFSOC (Air Force Special Operations Command) tourism, to land acquisition, even a VA Hospital in our mall space. I’d love to hear other ideas.
I feel I can find ways to work more closely with and get more support from the Federal Government and our local bases, especially.
Hurlburt has traffic issues, which unfairly affect us daily. The constant inconvenience and additional wear and strain on our infrastructure must be rectified.
I’m confident I can compel them to work with us and support us a lot more. I’d certainly like the chance to try.
Those who know me will tell you I have endless energy, which I love to put to good use.
